Christkindl

Yesterday my friend and I went to the Kitchener Christmas Market! It was pretty cool, this was the first time I had ever been to Christkindl.  Christkindl is a Christmas market that originated from Germany, in the medieval times (1400).  It's basically where a bunch of people come and sell Christmas things, to celebrate Christmas the German way.

We saw some donkeys outside city hall, just chilling. Apparently they bite, so we didn't touch them.

Some Christmassy decorations

The view from upstairs, looking down into the first floor (out of two) of the market.

Cute wooden toy cars, reminds me of those old Christmas movies with kids playing with them.

I went to the bathroom and saw this note. I like how whoever did this was honest and it's these kinds of gestures that make me feel like not everyone out in the world is so bad.

Lots of baked goods.

Stollen was apparently some type of pastry, made back then but it didn't taste that great. Apparently it's Christmassy because of the way they make it; they layer the bread by wrapping the previous layers like a baby blanket, maybe to represent Jesus when he was born? Not sure, the lady selling it said it was hard to explain what it was.

Christmas tree! So beautiful.

And of course they would have a beer nut stand.

Some vendors were selling cute winter hats.

Some jewelry. For some reason, I especially like the owl. It's cool.

Mmmm. The lovely smell of pretzels being kept warm. Ahh.

My date checking out the food booths.

They had a live choir earlier, and then they changed into a band playing Christmas music.

Skating rink for the family.

Outside Christmas tree.

More lights and market.

What a lovely behind apron!  (just kidding)

Going back to the bus terminal, we saw a nicely decorated street.

Turns out they decorated the tower thing at Victoria Park.

Close up.

I love Christmas, and looking around at decorations and lights. I'm going to go check out the Christmas light show at the park soon. I've been trying to go for a while now but no one would go with me since they're all busy and stressed over exams. Ah well, hopefully I'll be able to go tonight. Christmas is like the highlight of the winter. When it's gloomy and dark outside, Christmas decorations and Christmas food is there to make me happy. And of course, celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ - the best gift to mankind.

today I read proverbs 23.

Here is an interesting verse, "Do not wear yourself out to get rich; do not trust your own cleverness" (Proverbs 23:4 NIV).
